CENTRAL TRAINING INSTITUTE FOR INSTRUCTORS

 

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

 

The Central Training Institute for Instructors, Chennai was established in the year 1962 by the Govt. of India under the Ministry of Labour, DGE&T with the assistance of International Labour Organisation (ILO). The Institute is located on the Grand Southern Trunk Road, adjoining the Industrial Estate at Guindy and is well connected by the Suburban Electric Train service and other transport systems. This institute is just 5 kms. from the Chennai International Airport and about 13 kms. from the Chennai Central Railway Station.

 

The primary function of this Institute is to train the Vocational Instructors required by the various Industrial Training Institutes, Industrial training centres and other training establishments. Subsequently, Model Training Institute was also created in February 1965 with 15 Vocational trades to enable the Instructor trainees to have practice teaching and also to have first hand knowledge of organising classes, workshop, record maintenance etc.The Institute also caters to the needs of many developing countries for training of their instructors and tradesmen by arranging special training programmes. The Institute has well-equipped workshops, laboratories and other infrastructural facilities for carrying out the various training programmes to meet the current developments in the field of Instructor Training. It has also highly experienced faculty members.

 

 

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAMME

 

1.01 OBJECTIVES

 

1. To develop the skills required to analyse a trade syllabus and to plan and organise   trade training in practical skills and related instructions.

2. To provide training in the methods and applications of instruction for effective learning of trade skills together with techniques of evaluating the work of trainees.

3. To design and administer criterion based tests.

4. To promote a sense of responsibility for the proper up-keep of the equipment, tools and other materials entrusted to the  care of the instructor, and the  ability to maintain and operate the system  of  record-keeping in practice.

5. To understand one’s deficiencies in the trade area (practical and the theoretical) and over-come their  short-coming so that full technical competence is achieved.

6. To  encourage an appreciation for the need to keep abreast with current development both in the techniques of his trade  and methods of  instruction.

7. To equip the instructor with an understanding of  labour  and management  relationship for preparing  his trainees for their  entry  and  progress into their new careers in industrial environment. 

 

1.02 Courses under Instructor Training Programmes

 

This Institute conducts two types of instructor training programmes viz. modular and non-modular pattern. It also  organises many short duration tailor-made special training programmes based on the request  of various organisations.

 

1.03 Modular Pattern of instructor training

 

The modular pattern of instructor training consists of three modules of instruction as given below:

In  this  pattern,  a trainee  can  seek  admission  in  any  module  of  his choice and complete the rest of the modules either consecutively or later at his own convenience but within a period of 3 years from the commencement of  their first module. Trades covered under modular pattern are :

 

1.  Fitter                2. Turner.              3.  Welder  (Gas & Electric)                 4.  Electrician.         5. Mechanic (Diesel)              6. Mechanic (Motor Vehicle).

 

 

1.04 Non-modular Pattern of  Instructor  Training

 

The non-modular pattern of  instructor training consists of all the subjects covered in the Modular pattern viz. TT, ET & POT. Trainees have to study all these subjects simultaneously for one year duration. The trades covered under this pattern are:

1. Machinist        2. Foundryman            3. Draughtsman (Civil)

 

 

1.05  Entry level requirements (both for modular and non-modular courses)

 

 i)   Passed  in Matriculation or equivalent examination.

 ii)  Diploma  in Engineering in the relevant Branch recognised by the

       Government.                          Or

 

      National Apprenticeship  Certificate in respective trade.

                                                    Or

      National Trade Certificate in respective trade with one year experience

                   either in a reputed  industry or in a training organisation.

iii)  Between 18 and 40 years of age. No upper age limit for deputed

                   candidates.

 

1.06   Month of admission

 

 Modular courses:

 

 Module on Trade Technology -   August & February every year.

 

 Module on Engineering Technology  - August, November, February
                                                               & May every year.

 

 Module on Principles of Teaching                -  August, November , February
                                                               & May every year.

 

 Non-modular courses                        -    August every year.

 

 

1.07   Mode of admission

Firstly all the deputed candidates from the Government Institutions are considered followed by the deputed candidates by Public Sector Undertakings as well as the sponsored candidates by Private Institutions and the remaining vacant seats, if any, are filled by Private candidates based on the merit list prepared for this purpose.

 

1.08    How to apply

           Application form can be obtained from the Principal, Central Training  Institute For Instructors, Guindy, Chennai-32 by paying Rs.5/- only by Indian Postal Order in favour of Registrar, CTI, Chennai-32. Rs.10/- shall be charged for each application as Registration fee at the time of submission of application forms for Registration.  Registration fee will be accepted only by Indian Postal Order in favour of Registrar, CTI, Chennai-32.

 

1.09    Conditions for appearing for the all India trade test for craft Instructors

 

Only those candidates who fulfil the requirement of 60% in Sessional marks and who have 80% attendance in each module will be permitted to appear for the examination.

60% of marks in each subject is essential for a pass.

Trainees who do not fulfil the requirement of attendance and Sessional marks will have to repeat the module before appearing for the subsequent examinations.

 

1.10    Award of certificate

 

After successful completion of each module the Instructor trainees will be issued Certificates by the Principal, Central Training Institute  and after successful completion of all modules, the Course Completion Certificate will be awarded by National Council for Vocational Training for the trainees under Modular pattern.

After successful completion of One Year, the trainees will be awarded the Certificate by the National Council for Vocational Training for the trainees under the Non-Modular Pattern.

1.11    Fee and other charges for instructor training (modular and non-modular)

 

1.      Tuition fee :

(a) Nominees of Govt. ITI s        -  No fee

(b) All others                               - Rs.30/-p.m.

2.      Gymkhana fee : - Rs.5/- p.m.

Foreign National               -     Rs.100/- per trainee per course

3.      Hostel service charges

(only for inmates)              -     Rs.10/- p.m.

4.      Caution Deposit - Rs.50/-

5.      Library Deposit - Rs.20/-

 

NOTE:

 

a)      Fee should be paid for each module at the time of admission.

b)      In case of Non-modular courses, the fee should be paid initially for 6 months (Aug.-Jan.) at the time of admission and subsequently for another 6 months (Feb.-July) in the month of February.

 

CRAFTSMEN TRAINING PROGRAMME

 

2.01     The  Model  Training  Institute  attached  to  the  Central  Training  Institute for

Instructors conducts training programmes in various trades leading to the  award of National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT. The  duration of the courses varies  from  1 to 3 years as given below:

Minimum Qualification for Admission

 

Pass in 10th standard under 10+2 system or its equivalent except for the trade of C&T, Pattern Maker and COPA.

For C&T and Pattern Maker, the minimum qualification is pass in VIII standard  and  for COPA   the minimum qualification is passed 12th standard under 10+2 system of education or passed 3 years Diploma in any branch of Engineering from a recognised Polytechnic or its equivalent.

 

2.02   Age

Candidates seeking admission to the courses should be within the age limit of 14-25 years. In the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Tribe the upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years. The upper age limit is also relaxed for Physically Handicapped persons by 10 years.

 

2.03   Month of Admission

August every year for the Trades which are to be started in that session.

 

2.04   Mode of admission

Applications to the courses  are invited through advertisements in local newspapers usually in the month of May  every year.  Admission  will  be  based on merit,  subject to the rules regarding reservation for various categories.

 

2.05   Physical Fitness

Before admission, candidates will undergo medical  examination and  produce a certificate of Physical fitness from the Medical Officer of  the Institute. Those who are declared medically  unfit will not be admitted for training. The candidates should  have a weight of not less than 25.4 Kgs and height of not less than 137 cms.

 

 

2.06   Eligibility conditions for appearing the final trade test

The candidate should have 80% attendance while appearing for Final Examination. 40% of marks in theory subjects and 60% of marks in practicals  are essential  for a pass.

 

 

2.07   Working hours

The trainees will attend the training courses for 42 hours per week of which 25 hours are devoted to practical training, 15 hours for theoretical instructions and 2 hours for extra-curricular activities.

 

 

2.08   Award of certificates

At the end of the course, all eligible candidates will appear for All India Trade Test and successful candidates will be awarded National Trade  Certificates  issued by the National Council  for Vocational Training.

 

 

2.09   Fees for Craftsmen Trainees

 

Tuition fee                -Rs.20/- p.m.

Caution Deposit                -Rs.50/-

Library Deposit                -Rs.20/-.

Hostel service charges                -Rs.10/- p.m. 

Examination fee                -Rs.25/- 

Supplementary Tests                -Rs.30/-.

 

Note : SC / ST & PH trainees are exempted from paying tuition fee and examination   fee. Annual Tuition fee is payable in 2 instalments. The first instalment is payable at the time of admission and the balance after 6months.

 

 

2.10   Medical facilities

 

The Institute has a Dispensary with  a Medical Officer supported by other necessary  staff.  It is open during the working hours of the Institute . Emergency cases of hostel inmates are attended to even  beyond the normal working hours.

 

 

2.11   National Cadet Corps

 

NCC training is provided for desirous/eligible candidates . Trainees of Craftsmen Training programme (MTI) are eligible for enrolment in NCC.

 

2.12   Stipend

 

50%  of   the  trainees  on roll or sanctioned seats whichever is less will be  awarded  a stipend  of  Rs.100/-p.m. on poverty-cum-merit basis . Also a merit scholarship  of Rs.15/-p.m. is awarded to 4% of the total no. of trainees.

 

 

Details common to CTI and MTI Training Programme

 

1.  Library

A well-equipped  library with reference and lending facilities is available. Lending facilities are extended to instructor trainees and participants of short-term training programmes.

 

2.  Caution Deposit

Caution  deposit  and  library deposit paid by the trainees  are refundable after deduction of dues, if any, on completion of courses.

 

3.  Reservation of seats for the courses

20%  of  seats  are  reserved  for  persons belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes and 3%  for Physically Handicapped.

10 seats are reserved for wards of the Defence personnel etc. as per priority

mentioned below :

i)        Children of deceased / disabled ex-service men including those killed /

 disabled during peace time.

ii)   Children of ex-service men.

iii)  Children of serving Jawans.

iv)  Children of serving officers.

 

4.  Identification Card

All trainees are required to possess identity cards issued by the Institute for which photographs are to be submitted  by the trainees at the time of admission. Trainees will not be permitted to enter the Institute or hostel premises without the Identity card.

 

 

 

TRAINING PROGRAMME ON AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS

 

The deputed candidates from various State Governments, Reputed Organisations apart from DGE&T Staff are the beneficiaries of this programme.  The duration is Two weeks. No fees are charged for this course.  TA/DA for this training programme is paid by the Institute under Technical Assistance Programme.

 

 

NATIONAL RENEWAL FUND PROGRAMME

 

This Institute being a nodal center for implementation of this scheme also conducts a training programme for the benefit of Rationalized Industrial Workers of various Public / Private Enterprises who had taken Voluntary Retirement Scheme under Golden Handshake Scheme.  The duration is 50 working days and they are paid Stipend as Rs.60/- per day.  They are issued Course Completion Certificate after successful completion of the course and suitable arrangements are being carried out through various agencies to make them wage/self employable.
